“We knew our steep site was challenging to build on- we needed an architect who was adaptable and original. Our brief was for a house to be enjoyed, a ‘house of hospitality’ now and into the future. Not a big house; but a nice house – and our last house!
We were blessed to have journeyed with Jamison Architects. Mark and Angela listened actively and intently to our dreams and lifestyle needs. Leading us enthusiastically through the process, they designed a wonderful abode full of creative spaces, whilst adding unique ‘wow’ factors. Our home oozes ‘wonderful views from every room’ (Mark’s own brief to himself), space and light, versatility and uncluttered homeliness.
We love Attunga (‘high place’) and have enjoyed many memorable occasions with family, friends, neighbours (and Mark & Angela) laced with good food, good wine and laughter.

Situated on the New South Wales and Queensland border, this home perches on the rim of a steep slope that overlooks the Gold Coast.
The steep site is also diamond-like in shape and access to the best and most usable part of the site created some design challenges.
Accessibility in the future was also a prime consideration so in addition to being able to have great vehicular access, the home also needed to incorporate a lift. There is the option of using the main staircase or the lift to access the main level, rear garden and lap pool. The main level includes all the living and bedroom spaces and a special spot for the beloved grand piano, and what a view to play to! The lower level includes a self-contained guest suite and the garage.
The design enables each room in the house to enjoy the spectacular view whilst maintaining great privacy. The views are carefully controlled, so from within the house one is unaware of the neighbouring properties. The lap pool in the rear garden is also thoughtfully positioned to enjoy the view. Similarly, northerly orientation of the house allows it to enjoy the benefits of natural lighting and natural ventilation and capture the breezes.
The design works well for the client’s lifestyle needs, including their joy to entertain family and friends.
This was a challenging site to design and build a home on, but the wonderful success of the project is due to the fantastic relationship we developed with the client and their enthusiastic input and trust that they had in us to create a really special and unique home for them.
